Our Plastering Services in Birmingham
Skimming & Re-Plastering
Skimming is a finishing technique applied to walls and ceilings to achieve a smooth, high-quality surface. It involves the application of a thin coat of plaster, typically about 1-2mm thick, over the top of an existing plaster surface or plasterboard. This process is often the final step in the plastering process, designed to provide a perfect, ready-to-paint finish.
Skimming can often be a cost effective alternative to a full re-plaster and can be used when walls and ceilings in an older property are in a poor condition.
External Rendering
Rendering is the process of applying a coat or coats of plaster to the exterior walls of a building to achieve a smooth or textured surface finish. It is primarily used to improve the appearance of a building and provide weather protection to the external walls.
The process involves several key steps and offers numerous advantages, including protection from the elements, waterproofing, insulation, and improved aesthetic appeal of a property. Once cured, new render can be left bare or finished with exterior painting in Birmingham by the same team.

Plastering in Birmingham — FAQs
How much does plastering cost in Birmingham?
Cost depends on the size of the room, the condition of the existing walls and whether you need a skim over the top or a full re-plaster. Skimming a standard bedroom ceiling is a much smaller job than rendering a whole able end. We provide free, no-obligation on-site quotes so you get an accurate figure rather than a guess — call 0121 514 0762 or request a free quote.
How long does new plaster take to dry?
A freshly skimmed wall is usually touch-dry within a few days, but you should allow around a week per coat before painting — longer for thicker float-and-set work or in cold, damp weather. Plaster is dry when the dark patches have gone, and the surface is a consistent pale pink. We'll advise you on the day so your decorating isn't rushed.
Do I need a full re-plaster or just a skim?
If the existing plaster is sound but the surface is uneven, cracked or has old wallpaper damage, a skim coat is usually the cheaper and quicker option. If the plaster is blown, hollow-sounding, or affected by damp, it needs to be removed back to the brick and re-plastered. We'll tell you honestly which one your walls actually need.
Do you plaster commercial properties as well as homes?
Yes. We work for both residential and commercial clients across Birmingham, including landlords, letting agents and offices. See our commercial services for more detail.
Are you insured?
Yes — we're fully insured, and we're 5-star rated on both Google and Yell. We also take care to keep disruption and mess to a minimum in occupied homes.
